Buenos Aires, January 31, 2026 – Federal forces and the justice system are investigating as a terrorist attack against a strategic target the serious sabotage attempt detected this noon by a Gendarmerie Corporal in the Ezeiza Woods area, where a plan to cause a large-scale explosion on high-pressure gas critical infrastructure was thwarted.
The precision in the placement of the devices and the use of warfare weapons are considered typical indicators of a terrorist action against a strategic target. Due to the nature of the event occurring in a protected area and its potential impact on national security, Federal Justice is involved.
The case is being led by Vanesa Rocuso, head of Federal Court No. 2 in Lomas de Zamora, who ordered the immediate deployment of the Federal Police of Argentina's Explosives Division, as well as firefighters and the Scientific Police, to neutralize risks and deepen the investigations.
The Ezeiza Woods area remains completely cordoned off and under reinforced custody, while ballistic, chemical, and trace analyses, along with camera and communications surveys, continue.
For the authorities, the rapid intervention prevented an unprecedented tragedy.
For the investigators, the shots were not only intended to ensure an escape: the central hypothesis holds that they were meant to detonate the previously placed fuel and trigger a massive explosion, typical of a terrorist action aimed at strategic infrastructure.
During the subsequent sweep, personnel from GPM Sur II confirmed the scale of the planned attack. An Argentine National Gendarmerie officer detected two individuals moving on a black Honda Tornado motorcycle near a trunk gas pipeline. Upon the officer's intervention, the suspects fled and opened fire with 9mm caliber weapons.
